Biography

Since 1977, Mike Edgett has practiced law in Clinton, Missouri—first as an associate to Senator William J. Cason and, after Cason’s retirement, with the firm’s successor. He is AV-rated and a member of Elder Counsel, concentrating his practice on estate planning, wills and trusts, probate and trust administration, real estate, and small-business matters. An active leader in his profession, he served as president of the 27th Judicial Circuit Bar Association and remains deeply involved in the local estate-planning and probate community.

A devoted community volunteer, Mike is a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus. He spent over 30 years on the Board of Directors of The Samaritan Center—serving as Board President during construction of its current facility—and is a life member and past distinguished president of the Clinton Sunrise Optimist Club. He has also served on the board of the Education Foundation for Clinton Students, helped found the Clinton School District’s Bright Futures affiliate (where he remains on the advisory board), and been active in the Heartland Community Theater. His civic honors include:

• 2014 Greater Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year

• 2015 Clinton School District Friend of Education Award

• 2016 Bright Futures Community Champion Award finalist

• 2019 Citizen of the Year, Clinton Sunrise Optimist Club

Mike earned his B.S. in Criminal Justice Administration, Cum Laude (1972), and his M.S. in Criminal Justice Administration, Summa Cum Laude (1973), from the University of Central Missouri—where he was named Outstanding Graduate Student in Public Services. Before attending law school at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, he served as an associate professor in UCM’s Department of Criminal Justice Administration.

Since 1977, Mike and his wife of 51 years, Roberta, have made their home in Clinton. They have two children and five grandchildren, all of whom they delight in spending time with. Outside the office, Mike enjoys cycling and golfing.
